Free All the Hostages Now

 To:

Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres,

Heads of State and Government of every country which has hostages kidnapped in Gaza,

Kidnapping of civilians and taking them hostage is a war crime according to the Geneva Conventions of War. The inhuman nature by which Hamas terrorists kidnapped more than 240 people on October 7, 2023, is an offense to all humanity and the civilized world. Hamas has refused to allow access to the hostages from the organizations or countries that you represent to check on their well-being.  Hamas has not published a list of kidnapped hostages-which include young children to elderly men and women.  Nobody knows with certainty who is dead and who is alive, and among the living, what their condition is. Hamas, as the ruling entity in Gaza, is singularly responsible for all of this. Therefore:

We, the undersigned, urge you to immediately exert every lever of justice in your power to free ALL hostages kidnapped and held by Hamas, immediately.

We urge you to clearly and publicly affirm per the Geneva Conventions of War that kidnapping and taking hostages outside of combat, or within asymmetrical warfare where enemy combatants are not regular military forces of nation-states, IS A WAR CRIME.

We urge you to continue every humanitarian effort for visitation and any medical attention required of the hostages by the United Nations, The International Red Cross, and other humanitarian world bodies, immediately.

We urge you to demand Hamas release a complete list of captives and their condition, immediately.

We urge you to avoid pressuring Israel to agree to a ceasefire in any form, or require any ransom in the form of money or any goods to Hamas controlled Gaza in return for acquiring the hostages’ names, status, or realizing the hostages’ immediate release.

We urge you, regarding freedom of ALL hostages, to demand release of two Israeli citizens, one Arab and one Ethiopian, and the remains of two soldiers whom Hamas has cruelly held hostage for years.

We urge you to forgo any deals to release hostages of any one nationality, ethnicity, or religion, and instead bring all hostages together to freedom now.

We urge you to act forcefully and immediately for the wellbeing of the hostages, and their families, who all want them all released now.

We emphasize that “Never Again” also engenders never allowing singling out of Jewish and Israeli hostages, and that all hostages must be released, together and immediately.

We, citizens of the free world, ask that you stand up and be counted clearly among the civilized people of the world and speak truth in every platform possible, every media and mode of communication to denounce the darkest manifestation of evil in kidnapping hostages, without moral equivalence or ambiguity, and to demand and work relentlessly for the release of all hostages immediately. We ask that you do so on behalf of the hostages, their families, morality, and recognizing that failure to do so may mean our nations will be next if we do not stand strong.

El secuestro de civiles y su toma como rehenes es un crimen de guerra según los Convenios de Guerra de Ginebra. El carácter inhumano con el que los terroristas de Hamás secuestraron a más de 240 personas el 7 de octubre de 2023 es una ofensa a toda la humanidad y al mundo civilizado. Hamás se ha negado a permitir el acceso a los rehenes de las organizaciones o países que usted representa para comprobar su bienestar. Hamás no ha publicado una lista de rehenes secuestrados, que incluyen desde niños pequeños hasta hombres y mujeres de edad avanzada. Nadie sabe con certeza quién está muerto y quién está vivo, y entre los vivos cuál es su condición. Hamás, como entidad gobernante en Gaza, es el único responsable de todo esto. Por lo tanto:

Nosotros, los abajo firmantes, lo instamos a ejercer de inmediato todas las palancas de la justicia a su alcance para liberar de inmediato a TODOS los rehenes secuestrados y retenidos por Hamás.

Le instamos a que afirme clara y públicamente, según las Convenciones de Guerra de Ginebra, que el secuestro y la toma de rehenes fuera del combate, o dentro de una guerra asimétrica donde los combatientes enemigos no son fuerzas militares regulares de los estados-nación, ES UN CRIMEN DE GUERRA.

Le instamos a que continúe con todos los esfuerzos humanitarios para las visitas y la atención médica que las Naciones Unidas, la Cruz Roja Internacional y otros organismos humanitarios mundiales requieran de los rehenes, de inmediato.

Le instamos a exigir que Hamas libere inmediatamente una lista completa de cautivos y su condición.

Le instamos a que evite presionar a Israel para que acepte un alto el fuego de cualquier forma, o exigir cualquier rescate en forma de dinero o bienes a la Gaza controlada por Hamás a cambio de adquirir los nombres y el estatus de los rehenes, o de lograr la liberación inmediata de los rehenes.

Le instamos, en relación con la libertad de TODOS los rehenes, a exigir la liberación de dos ciudadanos israelíes, un árabe y un etíope, y los restos de dos soldados que Hamás ha mantenido cruelmente como rehenes durante años.

Le instamos a que renuncie a cualquier acuerdo para liberar a rehenes de cualquier nacionalidad, etnia o religión y, en cambio, reúna a todos los rehenes hacia la libertad ahora.

Le instamos a actuar enérgica e inmediatamente por el bienestar de los rehenes y sus familias, quienes quieren que todos sean liberados ahora.

Hacemos hincapié en que “Nunca más” también implica no permitir nunca seleccionar a los rehenes judíos e israelíes, y que todos los rehenes deben ser liberados, juntos y de inmediato.

Nosotros, ciudadanos del mundo libre, les pedimos que se pongan de pie y se les cuente claramente entre los pueblos civilizados del mundo y que digan la verdad en todas las plataformas posibles, en todos los medios y modos de comunicación para denunciar la manifestación más oscura del mal en el secuestro de rehenes, sin equivalencia moral o ambigüedad, y exigir y trabajar incansablemente para la liberación inmediata de todos los rehenes. Le pedimos que lo haga en nombre de los rehenes, sus familias y su moralidad, y reconociendo que no hacerlo puede significar que nuestras naciones serán las siguientes si no nos mantenemos firmes.
